Explorations Academy is a fully-accredited high school inspiring youth to become leaders for the 21st Century. Our work with young people focuses on the personal, social, and global aspects or a well-grounded education. With these focuses, students at Explorations discover many things:

A Different Approach at Explorations Academy

We are implementing a different approach to education - one less predetermined and less centralized - one that matters! In a traditional education, the curriculum is planned by adults at the district or state level and delivered to students in classrooms.  Students are then expected to know and be ready to repeat the information they have accumulated.

Self-directed learning is a part of every class and faculty work closely with students to identify the right level of individual challenge. We address complex topics in the classroom. Students are treated as intellectuals as they explore ethics, debate philosophy and delve into contemporary issues.

An Explorations Academy education isn’t easy. It’s not designed to be. In fact, a world-class education will challenge students’ basic assumptions and demand hard work. Academic study in our multi-age classes is geared toward the individual student’s ability. Explorations students can expect to face academic tasks that push them to excel, not simply tasks that are typical for a certain grade level. While we teach and hold students accountable for advanced level content information, the core of the student experience is not the accumulation of information. Rather, we emphasize the careful evaluation, synthesis and application of knowledge.

As our students draw upon their creativity, motivation, courage and curiosity, their educational journey will take them far. Working with others brings depth to their peer relationships and richness to their education.
