Recent graduates
We graduated five students in 2010 -- an Explorations Academy record! Moreover, each of those five studied at Explorations through their entire high school career. A diverse and talented bunch, these five individuals each explored a curriculum of their own design during their final term at Explorations. Now they have moved off to pursue their post-high school plans. Here are a few snippets of their final term work at Explorations and where they are currently.
Pat studied astronomy and elementary education, spending significant amounts of time volunteering in a fourth-grade classroom. He has now enrolled in Skagit Valley College to keep his mind busy while making longer range educational decisions.
Lindsay pursued literature, both reading and writing, and also photography, videography, and visual perception. Lindsay produced a screenplay as part of her project and completed an honors course in linguistics. Lindsay is now a student at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Grant focused on visual art, music, and three-dimensional computer animation in his final term work. He was accepted to Western Washington University the day before his 17th birthday and is now enrolled there, taking engineering, computer design, and art courses.
Marina studied pharmacology, physical fitness and nutrition as central elements of her self-designed final term, as well as completing an internship in a clinic, as part of her preparation for a career in the medical sciences. Marina is currently taking classes at Whatcom Community College.
Grayson investigated physiology and physical education and also studied fictional languages, with a particular focus upon translating text from JRR Tolkein's Elvish language. Gray is currently focusing his time after high school on entrepreneurship endeavors.
