With much ado a play is produced, Alumni Gathering, and Permission Slip Due in Monday!
With much ado a play is produced!
What a week! With all consumed by everything Arsenic and Old Lace, this week has raced by. The curtain rises at 3:00 PM today. We hope to see you all smiling from the audience!
We owe a great big thank you to so many who made it all come together: to fearless leader Suzy Wittman and the rest of the staff who’ve devoted many hours to the production; to the Rome Grange for donating space to practice; to the Re-Store, Value Village and WWU for providing costumes and set materials; to Cicchitti’s for contributing pizza; to The Bellingham Senior Activity Center for the performance space; to Glenn for set construction; to Theresa, Carmen, Laird, Louise, Elisa, Kate (and her mom), June, Martha, Cindy, Mary, David and Barry who’ve signed up to help with many aspects of the play; and to the rest of the parents who have jumped in and helped with lines and supported the kids through the process. As always, it is hugely inspiring to see how pulling together gets the work done. Pat yourselves on the back and come and enjoy our kids as they perform! -- Sarah
Alumni Gathering
In addition to the play, we are hosting alumni events on Nov 17th. There will be a hike to Oyster Dome in the Chuckanuts from 11:00-3:00, and an Alumni reception at the school from 4:00-6:00. If you would like to help, please give us a call. Someday your kids will be alumni!!
Permission Slip Due in Monday!
Crime and Punishment students must turn in permission slips by Monday to be allowed to watch the movie, The Hurricane. Please call Lisa if you have any questions or concerns.
Field Trip Nov 28 - 30
Follow [event link] for details about this event.
Meaning and Purpose cluster
The various elements of the Meaning and Purpose cluster’s field outing to Vancouver BC are beginning to come together. Whereas our previous trip focused on the Judeo-Christian tradition, this trip will be centered on religions with which most students are less familiar. Most notably, we will be visiting a mosque as well as a Hindu and Buddhist temple. In addition, conversations with religious scholars are being set up so that students will experience both the sensory and academic offerings of Vancouver’s religious communities. Excitement is building around the planned outing to the International Buddhist Society, widely considered the most exquisite example of Chinese architecture in Canada. We are also excited to visit the Gold Buddha Monastery where Explorations students reported having an amazing visit four years ago. In addition, we will be visiting the Punjab Market to give those students who are headed to India a little taste of the wonders they will experience. This trip should be a wonderful experience for everybody involved, and I look forward to the chance of sharing new ideas and perceptions with the students. -- Bacchus
Crime and Punishment cluster
The Crime and Punishment cluster will be heading to Seattle with plans to visit the regional crime lab, UW Sociology department, and the King County court-house. They’ll also be interviewing a judge during the trip.
All students will leave mid-morning on Wednesday November 28th and will return by 4:30 on November 30th. Students will need to bring warm clothes, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. Students traveling to Vancouver will need to bring their passport or birth certificate AND make sure they have their Exploration ID card. Please call the school with any questions or concerns.
India Grill Hosts Fundraising Dinner
Please join us for a fine Indian meal and good company! We will hold a fundraising dinner at the India Grill on Tuesday December 4th at 6:00PM. Proceeds from the dinner are designated for the India Expedition. Reservations are not required, but are recommended. You can make a reservation by calling Sarah at the school. The cost of the dinner is by donation of $10-$20 (or more!) We set the price as sliding scale so that everyone can afford to come; of course, the more you can contribute, the more we will raise for this exciting trip.
The India Grill is located at 1215 Cornwall Ave. Hope to see you there!
Volunteer Corner
We are so lucky to have folks helping at the school this week: Betty McMahon, Lee Hugill, Travis Janeway, Glenn Lane, and WWU Student Luke Kress, plus all those theatre volunteers listed above.
