OUTREACH WEEK Is March 22-26 -- Please Join Us!

If you know of any teenagers who might consider an independent high school, here's the perfect chance to learn more!  Explorations Academy is hosting its 2010 Outreach Week March 22-26, with public events, a presentation on the school's recent expedition to Indonesia, free gifts, and a drawing for a $500 tuition voucher.

One goal of outreach week, according to school director Daniel Kirkpatrick, is to inform the public about Explorations' financial aid and scholarship programs.  "We offer several scholarships in addition to need-based tuition assistance," said Kirkpatrick.  "We work to ensure that capable kids of any income can attend our school."

RiceThe week kicks off at 7pm on Monday, March 22 with Indonesia, a presentation of stories and reflections from Explorations' recent month-long expedition to that island nation.  Students worked in an orphanage on Java, did reforestation work on Borneo, and attended cultural events on Bali in January and February of this year.

On Tuesday, March 23, Explorations hosts a Forum on Communicating with Teenagers, an open panel discussion with parents and professionals to exchange ideas and approaches for working effectively with young people.

Wednesday, March 24 is an all-day Student Open House.  From 8am to 3pm, teenagers will have the opportunity to attend a class or two at Explorations to experience the social and academic atmosphere of the school.  This is the only Outreach Week event that requires an appointment; interested families may contact the school at 671-8085 or info@ExplorationsAcademy.org to schedule their visit.

Two events are slated for Thursday, March 25.  From 5:30 to 7:00pm, teens are invited to join Explorations students and faculty for Art and Science Activities and Pizza, including projects and informal conversation with teachers and students outside the regular school day, and a free pizza dinner.  Then, at 7pm, youth and parents both are encouraged to attend our Visitor Night, which focuses on helping students reach fulfillment and passion.  At this event we will show a thought provoking short video, followed by a brief presentation about the unique approach to a 21st Century education used at Explorations.

Classroom LabOutreach Week wraps up with a drawing at 3pm Friday, March 26 to determine the winner of a $500 tuition voucher; all families attending Outreach Week events will be entered into the drawing.  All events are free, and will be held at Explorations Academy, 1701 Ellis St. in Bellingham.
