Mt. Baker Orientation
On September 4, we leave town for three days of orientation at the Mountaineers Lodge on Mt. Baker. Students will need to have the gear from the front country gear list. The Mountaineers Lodge has bunk beds and a kitchen, so on this trip students will not need a camping pad, groundsheet, or dishes and cutlery. The packing list is attached below, and please note that there are some changes from last year.
Parent Meet-Up
Hi Everyone! Let’s get together for coffee and celebrate the first day of school!
Meet fellow EA Parents, ask questions, share stories, and mark the new school year with a delicious cup of coffee. Caffe Adagio is just a few blocks from EA on Railroad Avenue (across the street from the bus station) and features a bistro menu with simple sandwiches and soup. Contact Joy with any questions.
Used Gear Sale and Fundraiser
Explorations Academy is hosting a used gear sale on Saturday, September 28. This is a great time for families to shop for those essential camping and outdoor items you still need for upcoming trips and sports. It is also our first fundraiser of the year, and all sales will benefit EA. You can either donate items outright or contribute items on consignment. There will be a bin in the office for donations, or you can contact Liz through text at 206-384-0771 for pick-up. Refresh your gear supply while supporting our incredible academic programs! We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to assist with this event. More information about parent volunteer opportunities is listed below.
Speaking of Volunteers…
Liz Kuchling has taken on the task of coordinating parent volunteer opportunities and tracking volunteer hours. In addition to the gear sale, we request volunteers for a labor day work party at the school, and we have ongoing needs around the building that can be completed on your own schedule. Our staff have compiled a wishlist, and there are plenty of interesting jobs for parents with skills in carpentry, painting, or organization. This year we have an online system for parents to track their completed hours. Connect with Liz by email or text at 206-384-0771.

Impromptu Work Party
We are hosting an impromptu work party to beautify the main entrance to EA on Monday, September 2, from 9 am to 1 pm. Help tape, clean, power wash, and repaint our entranceway. You can join us for just an hour or stay the whole time! The more hands we have the quicker we can give this prominent space a much-needed makeover.
Family Night
We have a lot of new families this year, but even returning families start the year with loads of great questions for our team. We invite parents and guardians to join us the evening of Wednesday, September 11 to cover the nitty-gritty of our clusters, trips, policies, and family expectations. We will also meet separately with parents of current juniors and seniors to discuss a timeline for college planning. If there is anything that you want to make sure we cover at this meeting, please contact Bacchus to add items to the agenda.
Reminder to Submit Forms
We sent an email to families recently with several attached forms that need to be returned before the start of the school year. All families need to complete these forms. Even if your student is returning and you filled these out last year, we need new copies to ensure our records and permissions are current. If you have any questions about forms, please contact Tania.
