We want to highlight an opportunity to support the school while getting great new travel gear. Bluffworks not only makes some of Bacchus’ most essential travel items, they have also been generously supporting the school for many years. Bacchus tells the story of Bluffworks’ connection to Explorations Academy on our website.
This year, they have donated $1000 worth of amazing gear for us to auction off. The money raised will support our ability to offer reduced tuition so that all appropriate students can participate in a truly global education. You can browse auction items and place bids on the EA website.
Term End Celebration
We are coming up on the most entertaining day of the term: Term End! Term End is an opportunity for students to condense 16 weeks of learning into a 16 minute presentation. These presentations have taken countless forms over the years from videos to slide shows, skits to game shows, and so much more. Some are serious, some are funny, all are creative, informative, and entertaining. Over the next few days students will be brainstorming what they would like present along with how they would like to present it. They will have no formal classes next week as we dedicate our time to supporting this endeavor.
Students will be showcasing these presentations at our Term End Event, which begins at 6:30 on Thursday, December 13. Please feel free to invite your friends and family to attend with us and bring a potluck item (no loose nuts, common allergens labeled) if you are so inclined.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Putting the Phở in Fundraiser
Vietnamese food is highly regarded for its subtle and delicious flavor combinations. One very popular Vietnamese dish is phở, a soup commonly eaten for breakfast in Vietnam and seasoned with beef bones, basil, bean sprouts, lime juice, and some salty fish sauce (to taste). Come enjoy a bowl of phở with the students going to Vietnam in January. The “phở feed” will be on December 15, at 6:00 p.m. here at EA. Recommended donation is $25.00, but consider contributing more to support students going on this adventure. Join us, and bring your friends! Please contact Bacchus to reserve your seats.
Follow EA on Social Media
Please consider following Explorations Academy on social media. We regularly provide updates on our amazing trips and the eccentric projects that we undertake when we are in the building. It is also a great way to spread the word about this amazing place. Your reviews make a significant difference in the decision making process of potential families and furthers the excitement that is building about the school. Check out our official Facebook and Instagram pages.
But Wait There’s More!
Explorations Academy parents have launched an EA Parents Group on Facebook. It is not “official,” but it’s still a great way to connect with other families. Click here to find the EA Parents Group.
Secret Santa is Coming
On Wednesday we drew names for our annual Secret Santa exchange, which will take place on Friday, December 14. In the past we’ve had separate gift exchanges between staff and students; this year, teachers and both middle and high school students are all in it together! Students: bring your handmade gifts to school next week, and be sure to specify who the gift is for. This is a fun tradition to close out the fall term and send us into winter break.
English Classes Publish Literary Journals
Explorations English students are hard at work on two different journals showcasing original writing projects from this term. In the middle school, Borderlands English class is working hard to draft and revise creative stories for their final anthology. In the high school, Origins English class is producing a journal of creative and critical essays about storytelling, titled Meme Review: How Culture Travels. Each student has taken on a specific editorial position to help produce and publish this collaborative journal. Both classes look forward to sharing their projects with the EA community at Term End.
