October 2 – Teacher In-Service Day/ No School
October 5 – First Day of In-Person Classes
October 20-24 – EA’s Virtual Fall Fundraiser
In-Person Instruction Starts October 5th
We are excited to be offering in-person instruction once again on October 5th. Middle School classes will be in-person on Mondays and Wednesday, and High School classes will be happening on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will continue as they have been the last several weeks. On days when students are not meeting in person, we will continue to offer Zoom classes as you have experienced the last few weeks.
Any student who is sick, traveling, or wishes to stay home for reasons of risk mitigation can continue to attend via Zoom on days that are in-person. All teachers will wear headsets, and those students who are participating remotely will be projected on the wall so they can meaningfully participate in class. If you have any questions about what this might look like for your child, please contact your child’s advisor.
Google Classroom
Many families have asked questions about Google Classroom over the last few weeks. All parents should have received invitations from Google. These frequently end up in junk mail filters. Google sends out updates according to the preferences indicated on the original invitation.
If you want to set up more frequent updates (once per week is the usual default), you can change the settings if the invite was sent to a gmail account. In the event that the invitation was sent to a non gmail account, there are limited options for updating. If you would like to have an invitation be sent to a different email address, including a new gmail address, just let Bacchus know, and he will send a new invitation.

Come Prepared for Outdoor Classes
We are getting the final touches squared away for in-person instruction. We will have indoors classrooms available and equipped for instruction when needed; however, we intend to maximize use of our outdoor classrooms as one of the best means of mitigating risk of disease transmission. As such, we ask that all students come prepared for a full day of outdoor instruction.
We will have roofs over our heads whenever content is being delivered, but students should still be prepared for cold. In addition, many students will be walking between Explorations Academy and our largest outdoor classroom at Cornwall Park. Please come with rain wear if there is the slightest possibility of rain (and let’s be honest, that is everyday in Bellingham in October and November).
Chemistry Class
There are chemistry kits available in the school for pickup this week. These kits are needed at home on Thursday, October 1 for Chemistry class on the same day. -Jay

EA’s Fall Virtual Auction
Our largest fall fundraiser is coming up quickly. It has always been EA’s custom to have a beautiful and delicious farm-to-table dinner with a silent auction (thanks to Joy Pesaturo and Chef Erik Truglas!). Due to the current situation, we have to think outside the box. Actually maybe just throw the box away at this point!
We are planning a 5 day Instagram Virtual Auction starting Tuesday, October 20th, then ending with a Zoom party and a premade picnic basket dinner on Saturday, October 24th. (More details later for the basket and Zoom party.)
How can you help? Do you have a cabin? A skill you can donate like yard work, baking pies, paint a room? Artwork or jewelry? We need donations, donations, donations! We would love 50 to 60 items to auction onto IG. We will give credit to a business, show off an artist’s work, help promote a growing enterprise.
Are you a photographer? For this fundraiser to work, it would be amazing to have a real photographer to take photos of the items so they look their best.
Please contact Elizabeth or Bacchus if you have something to donate.

Oh, and please follow us on Instagram @explorationsacademy. Invite family and friends to like us to spread the word!
We have samples in the office of our original cotton blend hoodies and sweats.
