Saturday, September 28 – Used Gear Sale
September 18-20 – Middle School Backpacking Trip
September 25-27 – High School Backpacking Trip
First Backpacking Trips of the Year!
Both middle and high school students will head to beautiful Baker Lake for our first backpacking trips of the year. Baker Lake Trail is a 13.9-mile point-to-point hike along the eastern shore of the lake. Students will split into two groups–one hiking south, the other north–and will cross each other midway. Both trips are 2-night outings, leaving Wednesday morning and returning on Friday for an on-time pick-up at the school.
Students should pack from the Backcountry Gear List, and include *all* items on the list regardless of the weather forecast. Unfortunately, these trips happen before our big gear sale (see below) but if you are missing any gear for your student there are many affordable options. Backcountry Essentials, in downtown Bellingham, has great used gear for reasonable prices. We can also offer certain items for a one-time loan. Please be in touch with your student’s advisor if you have questions about packing or acquiring gear.
Used Gear Sale and Fundraiser
Explorations Academy is hosting a used gear sale on Saturday, September 28. This is a great time for families to shop for those essential camping and outdoor items you still need for upcoming trips and sports. It is also our first fundraiser of the year, and all sales will benefit EA. You can either donate items outright or contribute items on consignment. There will be a bin in the office for donations, or you can contact Liz through text at 206-384-0771 for pick-up. Refresh your gear supply while supporting our incredible academic programs!
Excited About What We’re Doing? Please Share Your Enthusiasm…
Current and former members of the EA community have honored us with favorable reviews on sites such as GreatSchools.org, Facebook, and Google. If you are excited about the trips, lessons, or personal growth that we offer, please share your thoughts on one (or all!) of these sites. Current reviews help optimize our search-ability for prospective parents and improve their impressions once they find us.
Urban Outings are Planned for October
All clusters will travel to Seattle for the first of our fall term urban outings. Full itineraries are still in the planning stages, but we have confirmed lessons planned at the Center for Philosophy for Children (Mind Cluster), The Seattle Reparatory Theater (World as a Stage Cluster), and Seattle University School of Law (Crime and Punishment Cluster). Stay tuned for further details, and you can always check EA’s school calendar for the dates of all scheduled trips and outings during the year.
Reduced Memberships to Bellingham YMCA Now Available to Students
EA has partnered with the Downtown Bellingham YMCA to provide facilities for this term’s Basketball (PE) course. This partnership allows any EA student to obtain a membership for the highly reduced rate of $5 per month (current Basketball students already have membership). Please contact Daniel if you are interested in signing up your student for this great rate.
Students Hike Through the Mt. Baker Wilderness
Students show off the incredible views of Baker and Shuksan peaks from the Ptarmigan Ridge Trail on our all-day orientation hike through the Mt. Baker Wilderness Area.
Looking For More Ways to Volunteer?
We have an on-going list of volunteer tasks for parents who want to help out and fulfill their volunteer commitment to the school. Please don’t forget to track your hours! This log is important to show community and family investment in the school, which greatly boosts our competitiveness when applying for large grants. These grants enable us to continue providing world-class educational experiences at below-cost tuition.
