High School Urban Outing
High school staff is currently planning the second urban outing of the term, scheduled for November 20-22 in Vancouver. We’re doing something a little different this time, and booking activities in Bellingham for all day Wednesday before we leave for Vancouver that evening. Scheduling a full day of field trips and tours in our own backyard allows us to get the most from our local resources without sacrificing classroom time. We’ll spend Thursday and Friday in Vancouver before returning by 4 pm on Friday afternoon. Students should pack from the urban outing packing list, and be sure to bring lunch for Wednesday.
EA Students Give Back
On a gorgeous fall day, the entire Explorations community gathered at a restoration site in Marysville to help plant native trees–willow, spruce, cottonwood, and cedar–within a newly created wetland buffer. Students and staff worked hard alongside site managers from the Tulalip Tribes, and together we planted over 1,100 trees! This work helps EA achieve its mission of teaching through service, and also offsets a portion of our carbon footprint from travel. Well done, team!
Speaking of Working Hard…
We have 17 students traveling on two international trips this winter: a new record! Every student is responsible for contributing to the fundraising effort, and many have come forward to offer their time, brains, and brawn in exchange for funds. Please keep our students in mind as you consider winterizing and odd jobs around the house. We have willing hands to help with your chores. Contact Bacchus to arrange student work. All donations are tax-deductible.
International Dinner
One of our biggest events of the year is the international dinner, showcasing food and culture from the region we will be traveling to during the winter term. This year we have two destinations and our international dinner will reflect the unique cuisines of both. Enjoy a family-style meal of tacos de cerdos, with homemade salsa and guacamole. Our traveling students will help cook and serve the meal, and we invite everyone in our community to join us. Dinner will be by suggested $25 donation. Contact Bacchus for tickets and more information.
Middle School Late Release
Middle school scholars are also taking a field day here in Bellingham, on Friday, November 15. Both clusters are planning in-town field trips which will keep students at school a bit later than usual. In the coming week, we will be in touch with families of each cluster to share specifics.
Parent Hike at Lake Padden
Parents try to get out hiking at least a couple of times a month. They usually leave school about 9:00 am and return by midday. Contact Liz for information about the next hike.
Photo of the Week
The whole school crowded around (and in) the bus to celebrate our great day planting with the Tulalip Tribes. The students look perky now, but many fell asleep as soon as we hit the road for home: a true sign of an honest day’s work. Thanks to Daniel for capturing this EA moment.
