Return to Full Time In-Person Instruction
Starting on May 12th, we will be returning to five day per week, in-person instruction. This date was chosen in order to allow both the high school and middle school to operate without the other group present while we get used to this shift in schedule (middle schoolers will be backpacking for the first three days, high school students will be on Sucia island for the next week). There will no longer be a default online option. Teachers will do their best to coordinate with the families of students who are required to quarantine; however, we cannot guarantee that this option will be available without at least 24 hours notice. Even in these circumstances, class will be optimized for in-person instruction, and students will be expected to attend unless there are truly extenuating circumstances. We are excited by this latest return to normalcy, and we will share additional details as we get closer to that date. Please contact Bacchus with any questions or concerns.
Backpacking Information/Gear List
Yes, the backpacking trips are almost here! The high school will be departing on Wednesday, May 5th and returning on May 7th. The middle school will be departing on Wednesday, May 12th and returning on May 14th. Both groups will be hiking in the Chuckanuts. Expect information about pick-up and drop-off the week of departure. If your child is unable to attend, please let their advisor know as early as possible.
Both groups will have a gear check on the in-person day prior to departure. Please make sure that everything on this list is included and that at least 1/3rd of the bag is empty, allowing space for group gear. For families who would like to do an earlier gear check to make sure that there is lots of time to obtain/borrow anything missing, please contact Bacchus to make an appointment.
We are happy to lend out equipment to families, but we need to know in advance. Please let your child’s advisor know as soon as possible if you need help acquiring gear.
In addition to the usual supplies, please remember that students need three masks and personal hand sanitizer as part of our updated Covid policy.
Most major pharmacies are now carrying at home covid tests. Generally speaking, the Abbott BinaxNOW is the cheapest (about $12 per test). These tests meet all the requirements for our pre-trip testing in advance of our backpacking and high school Washington State History course. For the overwhelming majority of families, the drive-thru testing at Bellingham Airport remains the cheapest option.
…And Speaking of Testing
High school students who are not fully vaccinated need to have a negative covid test on file taken on or after May 2nd in order to participate in the backpacking trip. Students need to abide by the quarantine procedures laid out in our backcountry Covid protocols between testing and departure.
Please forward test results or a copy of the vaccination card to Elizabeth.
EA Work Party
Calling all families to help prepare the school for full time in-person instruction. We need to convert the library into a classroom to adhere to Covid protocols. We will need to move couches, tables, chairs, etc. into the basement and then move and clean desks for the new classroom.
Saturday, May 8th from 10 to 12.
More hands, lighter the work.
Please email Elizabeth if you can help. This can be counted towards your required parent hours.
