Adjunct Faculty
Originally from Bolivia, Luis Portugal studied Literature at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz. In 2005 he started at the University of Oregon where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature. Currently, Luis is the Latin American Studies Program Director at Western Washington University, and Senior Instructor of Spanish in the Modern and Classical Languages’ Department. In every class, Luis enjoys analyzing with his students the changes in our society and imagining our future. At Western, he has taught every level and created several new courses. He also had the opportunity to create the study abroad program, “Guanajuato: World Heritage City.”
Luis has been fortunate to have friends who introduced him to the wonderful nature and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, which he continues to explore in his spare time. In the Great Before Times, he also enjoyed playing Racquetball and taking long hikes with his friends. He is excited to start teaching at Explorations Academy.
