We are very pleased to be offering our 17th annual international expedition! Students have found these trips to be absolutely unforgettable, life-changing experiences. We believe that, despite the complexity and expense of these expeditions, they are invaluable learning opportunities, bringing results that make them an excellent investment. Our international expeditions are also a perfect example of how and Explorations Academy education prepares students for our diverse and changing world.
Academic Overview
The growth opportunities in extended overseas travel far exceed those of the academic coursework component. This expedition represents an opportunity to: open one’s mind to new experiences, beliefs, and values; create lasting relationships by closely working with others in an unfamiliar setting toward a common goal; develop confidence, self-reliance, and leadership by the necessity of facing challenges; and finally, to earn credit in four courses: Tropical Ecology, Vietnamese History, Literature of Southeast Asia, and Communicating Across Cultures.
Fundraising
We are acutely aware of the great cost of this undertaking, although we have economized in our planning as much as is reasonable. This Vietnam expedition requires an activity fee of $5,000 and we make every effort to make it accessible to any student who wishes to go, even those unable to pay the full amount. We have always relied upon student-driven fundraisers in the budget for our international trips. The form below allows you to support our vision of experiential, field-based learning.
